WhatsApp updated for iPhone XS Max & redesigned messages menu

WhatsApp for iOS has received some new updates which include support for iPhone XS Max’ larger display, a redesigned menu for messages, and consecutive playback for multiple new voice messages so users do not have to tap them one by one. In the previous major update, WhatsApp had received support for group video and voice calling.

WhatsApp has been relatively slow on the feature front as they still do not have the likes of stickers and apps, like competing messaging apps. However, this has meant that the app avoids bloat and remains as fast as ever despite the addition of voice and video calls, stories and business chat. The app is still as lean and fast as it was at launch.

With the new update, WhatsApp has added support for iPhone XS Max’ larger display. iPhone XS Max has a display size of 6.5-inch and a resolution of 2,688×1,242 pixels, which requires developers to update their apps for them to fit well on the screen.

Another major change is to how users listen to voice messages. Similar to iMessage, when you listen to multiple voice messages, the app will automatically play all of them, rather than making the user tap them one after the other.

The last change is a new redesigned menu that appears when you long-press any message. The options are still the same though.

Here is the complete change log for the new WhatsApp update:

• Consecutive Voice Messages will now play in sequence, so you don’t have to press play on each message.
• When you long press a message, a new design makes it faster to reply, forward, delete, copy or star the message.
• Support for iPhone XS Max.

WABetaInfo has dug around in the new version of the app and revealed that a dark mode for the app is under development, along with a vacation mode. While not in the change log, the new app also supports video playback in notifications as well as status replies in the form of documents, voice message, location and contacts.

The update is now available for all iPhone users. If you already have the app, open the App Store to update. Otherwise, you can install it from the link below.
