WhatsApp for iPhone has received a new update which brings a number of useful new features to the app. Users can now 3D touch to view updates (Stories), private reply to people in group chats, and add stickers to images and videos right from within the app.
WhatsApp had been slow to add some features like calling and stickers, while competitors like Messenger, Telegram and iMessage introduced them long ago. The company introduced group video and voice calls last summer, while Stickers were added to the app last October.
To add stickers to WhatsApp, users have to download and install sticker apps from the App Store. Once such a sticker pack is installed on an iPhone, the stickers start showing in WhatsApp. These stickers can be used in private and group conversations and now, on photos and videos too. To use stickers on a photo or video, just edit it in WhatsApp and tap the smiley button. You can also switch back to Emoji if you want to use them instead.
Another small but useful addition is the ability to reply privately to group conversation participants. You can just long press on a person’s message, tap More and tap on Reply Privately to directly message them. You do not have to go to their profile to message them directly thanks to this change.
Lastly, users can now 3D touch on a person’s update or Story to preview it.
Here’s the complete change log from WhatsApp:
• You can now reply to a group message privately in your 1:1 chat. Tap and hold a message in a group chat and select “More”, then “Reply Privately”.
• When editing a photo or video, you can tap the smiley icon to add stickers.
• From the Status tab, you can now 3D touch to preview a contact’s status.
The update is now available in the App Store for all users.
