Apple has released a number of updates today in the form of watchOS 5.2.1, tvOS 12.3, Apple TV Software 7.3 and HomePod software 12.3. The updates are now available as over-the-air updates for Apple Watch, Apple TV and HomePod respectively. Here are all the new features and changes in these updates.
Apple has released a number of software updates today which include iOS 12.3 and macOS Mojave 10.14.5. The main focus of these updates has been the new TV app which is now available in over 100 countries, although only 10 countries have access to the new Apple TV Channels feature. Apple has also introduced some features and improvements so that iOS devices and Macs can stream content to Smart TVs with AirPlay 2 support.
Apart from this, Apple has also released the following updates.
watchOS 5.2.1 is a very minor update and expands ECG and Irregular Rhythm Notification in Apple Watch to Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Croatia, and Iceland. ECG is available on Apple Watch Series 4, while Irregular Rhythm Notification is available on Apple Watch Series 0 and above.
Apple has also added 3 new Pride watch faces in this release. They have really nice new animations. Here’s a look at one of them:
The new TV app is included in this update, along with Channels support. Channels lets you watch on-demand content from sources like HBO, Showtime and many more. Users can also browse content from around 150 video streaming apps, along with Apple’s own iTunes library. If you already had iTunes purchases, they will show up in the new TV app’s library – with free 4K HDR versions, if your Apple TV and television support it.
There is also a Kids section which features content handpicked just for children. Lastly, a Sports section makes it easy to catch up with sports updates and even receive notifications for your favorite leagues and games.
Apple TV Software Update 7.3
Surprisingly, Apple also released a new update: TV Software Update 7.3, for 3rd generation Apple TV, which hadn’t been updated since ages. The update includes the new Apple TV app and Channels. It also includes a number of security fixes.
Here are a few photos of how the new TV app looks on 3rd generation Apple TV:
HomePod OS 12.3
This is a very minor update for HomePod. Release notes only mention support for “some types of enterprise networks that require unique credentials.” Exciting, in case you were using HomePod with an enterprise network.
