Apple has released tvOS 12.1.1 for Apple TV 4 and 4K models. The new update is a minor one and does not include any noticeable new features. As Apple’s own release notes do not mention anything, we can safely assume that the update includes under-the-hood stability and bug fixes.
tvOS 12.1.1 – nothing to see here
Just like tvOS 12.0.1, there is nothing new on the surface for this release. Apple hasn’t share any release notes whatsoever. However, if we find anything new, we will update this post.
You can update to tvOS 12.1.1 by going to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software on your Apple TV.
tvOS 12 was a major release for Apple TV and included feature like zero sign-on, interactive aerial screensavers, iCloud keychain password support, Dolby Atmos and more.
Even though Apple doesn’t focus often on it, the latest Apple TV models have been doing really well in the market. Even though they are priced higher compared to competitors like Roku, Fire TV and Chromecast, they are popular among consumers for the value and features they provide. Siri Remote, TV app, App Store and many other features make the Apple TV a great device for cord-cutters. With news of Apple’s upcoming video streaming service, Apple TV is likely to gain more importance in Apple’s product line-up.
It will be interesting to see what would be the next major features that Apple brings to Apple TV as things have been relatively quiet on the tvOS side of things.
Note that Apple has also released macOS Mojave 10.14.2 and iOS 12.1.1 today. iOS 12.1.1 ships with some much-needed improvements to FaceTime, while macOS Mojave 10.14.2 is a smaller update for Mac users.
