According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, pre-order demand for iPhone XR has already exceeded that of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Kuo states that the numbers between the phones in the first 3 days of the pre-order are “better than that” of iPhone 8 series phones. The phone might not have higher demand like the iPhone XS line-up but Kuo firmly believes that the iPhone XR is enticing enough to encourage current iPhone 8 owners to upgrade.
In a comprehensive report, obtained by MacRumors, Kuo is very firm on standing by the iPhone XR as the next definitive iPhone that will be in the hands of most people.
In the report, Kuo also states that Apple’s official website might not reflect accurate sales figures as carriers have offered promotional deals to go with the iPhone XR. Consumers looking for iPhone XR will order the phone if they were to gain something after the purchase of the phone e.g. a convenient payment plan. Other analysts in the field have stated that the availability of XR means that it might not be performing up to the mark that Kuo might expect us to believe, but Kuo has a proven track record, so his word stands with great merit.
Kuo further stated that iPhone XR could ship anywhere between 36 to 38 million units by Q4 2018. This is a 10% boost from his original forecast a year ago which stood at 33 to 35 million units.
Another point that Kuo makes is that the camera and A12 Bionic chip should be enticing enough to attract iPhone 8 and 8 Plus owners, as well as older iPhone users, to trade up to iPhone XR. The camera is especially enticing as there are massive improvements like Smart HDR and improved portrait mode.
Phil Schiller also backed the new phone in an interview, claiming that XR is the phone that aims to get iPhone X technology in as many hands as possible, by striking a perfect balance between price and features.
