New screenshots from iOS 13 have been revealed by 9to5mac. These screenshots show off the highly anticipated dark mode in action in Apple Music as well as the updated screenshots mark up tool. The new Reminders app is also shown in an iPad screenshot, along with the icon for the new Find My app, which will replace Find My Friends and Find My iPhone apps in iOS 13.
You can always rely on 9to5mac to spoil a new Apple event by releasing the best exclusives possible. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has previously released an extensive list of iOS 13 features. This list included a system-wide dark mode, along with updated first-party apps that would support it. 9to5Mac had also shared information from their sources and confirmed the existence of dark mode for iOS 13. With these new screenshots revealed today, we finally get to see it in action for the first time.
iOS 13 dark mode
The above screenshots show the home screen, Apple Music app and screenshot tool. On the home screen, only the dock background turns slightly darker, otherwise it’s difficult to tell if there is any change in the theme. In the Apple Music app, the background seems to be pure black, which is great for OLED iPhones as it could result in potential battery savings. However, this possibility will have to be tested for confirmation as currently the iPhone with the best battery life is the one with an LCD display, iPhone XR. In the third screenshot, the new screenshot markup tool is visible, with dark theme elements. Instead of the small thumbnail after screenshot capture in iOS 12, screenshots in iOS 13 will open in this full screen markup tool. How will this work with multiple screenshots is unclear.
In iOS 13, dark mode will be toggled on or off via Settings, as well as a button in Control Center.
iOS 13 Reminders App
It was previously reported that the new reminders app will have a 4 grid layout to categorize to-dos, scheduled tasks, all tasks and important tasks. This new Reminders app screenshot confirms that report. This same design update will also be coming to macOS Mojave 10.15, likely as a Marzipan app. It’ll be one of the biggest updates to the Reminders app in a long time, and should hopefully make it useful again.
Find My app
This has to be one of the weirdest app names that Apple has come up with. Just ‘Find’ would have been a good name but they decided to combine Find My Friends and Find My iPhone apps in a weird way. The app will be divided into two tabs, one for friends and one for devices. The design will look similar to that of the Apple Maps app on macOS. Of course, this app will also be making its way to macOS Mojave 10.15 as a Marzipan app.
WWDC 2019 is less than a week away and we can’t wait to see what else Apple has in store for iOS 13 and macOS Mojave 10.15!
