Brawl Stars is a free-to-play mobile video game developed and published by Supercell. The game is a fast online multi-player shooter and involves different maps, brawler types, game modes and much more.
On June 14, 2017, Supercell announced the release of Brawl Stars. It was then released globally on December 12, 2018. The game made more than $63 million in its first month and gained a pretty loyal fan base.
Brawl Stars – Simple Yet Successful
Brawl Stars is a brilliant game for pocket sized devices. In the default ‘gem grab’ mode, one match consists of 6 players, 3v3. Players are ranked by their level and total trophies. Players collect brawlers which come with their own unique weapons and super moves. They come in 6 types: League Rewards, Rare, Super Rare, Epic, Mythic and Legendary. There are currently 23 brawlers in the game waiting to be unlocked.
During gameplay, one stick controls character movement while the aims and fires the weapon. Players can alternately tap the latter stick for a single shot at the nearest foe. Once the special attack charges, another button activates it.
There are a number of different game modes in Brawl Stars: Gem Grab, Showdown, Bounty, Heist, Brawl Ball, Robo Rumble, Boss Fight, Big Game and more. They are unlocked as a you proceed and earn trophies. Each level is made available after earning a certain number of trophies. These game modes, or events, also rotate daily so players have a fresh set of events to play.
There isn’t much waiting time in the lobby. You select your character and event and get a match in a couple of seconds. Brawl Stars sticks to the same simple basic gameplay throughout. It helps in keeping the game fast and convenient.
Unlike Fortnite or PlayerUnknown’s Battleground, matches last a couple of minutes. Unlike the popular battle royale games, Brawl Stars works well even with older devices, making it compatible with most smartphones in the market. The art style is simple yet modern so the game looks the same no matter which device you use. Fortunately, there are not graphics settings or sliders unlike Fortnite and PUBG.
The game doesn’t have the kind of strategic vibe like Clash Royale that made the game famous and addictive. Supercell might have great ambition for Brawl Stars but I think that its simplicity could be a problem for players in the future because players might eventually get bored. I would like to see whether Supercell makes Brawl Stars more interesting by bringing new brawler and weapon upgrades.
I, for one, love the game. Tough situations in the game can make one curse at the screen and lose their calm because the battles can get really intense. This makes the victories really feel worth the effort.
The game is perfect for players who enjoy the small duration of competitive matches. It is free so make sure to give it a try.
