Apple releases wireless charging Smart Battery Case for iPhone XS, XS Max and XR

Apple has released new Smart Battery Cases for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, with support for wireless charging. The cases are available in black and white colors, and cost $129 for all iPhones. Qi wireless charging support means that these cases and the iPhone inside them can be wirelessly charged, without having to take out the iPhone first. These cases can also be fast charged using a USB-C to Lighting cable and USB-C Power Delivery charger.

Smart Battery Case for iPhone XS, XS Max and XR

Apple has previously released a Smart Battery Case for iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s but not for the Plus variants of these phones. These new cases mark the first time that Apple has released a smart battery cases for their larger sized smartphone, which is the iPhone XS Max. The new cases have smaller batteries but higher capacity so Apple is able to pack 2 cells instead of 1 which makes the cases more powerful and efficient than ever before.

The new Smart Battery Case has a silicone exterior and an interior lined with microfiber, which combine to provide sufficient protection from any fall damage and micro-aberrations. The cases allow users to use Lightning accessories like EarPods, headphone jack dongle and AV adaptor with their iPhone, without taking it out of the case. Even though the cases cost the same for all models ($129), the battery capacities are different.

Here is how much additional battery capacity you can expect with each of the Smart Battery Cases:

iPhone XS Max Smart Battery Case

At $129, these cases are not exactly cheap and you might not even need one if you are using a Max or XR. Something to consider before you decide to splurge money. You can also check out third-party battery cases, specially Mophie’s juice pack air, which support wireless charging too. They cost around $120 so not much different in price compared to Apple’s cases. However, Apple’s cases show two battery indicators on home screen for the phone and battery case and this is something that third-party cases cannot do.

Using iPhone XS Smart Battery Case with iPhone X

Many people have been wondering whether the iPhone XS battery case can be used with iPhone X. Although Apple does not officially say so, but the answer is yes. The case is not a perfect fit on iPhone X, but it works well. If the case doesn’t work, restarting the phone usually fixes it.
