Apple has released iOS 12 beta 8 as an over-the-air update as well as an IPSW on Apple Developer Center. Beta 7 was released earlier this week but was taken off after many users reported a bunch of performance issues on iPhone. These issues included sluggish performance during app launch and when using the notification center and lock screen. With this new release, Apple is expected to have fixed the performance issues that plagued beta 7.
The new build number is 16A5357b and its size is around 213.7MB for iPhone X. Beta 8 release notes are the same as beta 7, so it seems that the only changes in this build are stability fixes. If you are already on an iOS 12 beta but had not upgraded before, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update to download the new build.
If you have an Apple Developer Account, you can login and download the configuration profile to enroll your device and receive beta updates.
Early iOS 12 betas were received very well by testers due to their fast performance and useful feature updates. Even though beta 7 did not cause issues for everyone, including yours truly, Apple was quick to take action and remove the OTA. This is why iOS 12 public beta 6 was also postponed.
iOS 12 will be releasing this fall to the public with some much needed improvements like better performance for older devices, smarter grouped notifications, Siri Shortcuts, Screen Time, new animojis, Memojis and much more. There aren’t any unique feature updates for iPad, except for an iPhone X inspired status bar design and gestures.
Group FaceTime video calling was also announced as part of iOS 12, but as per the latest release notes, it has been delayed and will be released with an iOS 12.x build later this year. This sort of delay is becoming common for Apple as it happened before too, with Messages in Cloud and AirPlay 2 on iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.
Update: Apple has released iOS 12 Public beta 6, which includes the same changes that were found in 7th and 8th developer betas. You can read more about the changes here.
