Several reports claim that Apple might be releasing iPad mini 5 soon. The alleged device might be similar to iPad mini 4 in design and size but might ship with Apple Pencil support, Smart Keyboard and faster processor. It is also speculated that the price of the new iPad mini 5 might be $299; lower than the iPad mini 4 which retails for $329.
According to a leaked photo of the new iPad mini 5’s case, as shared on Twitter by Slashleaks, it can be assumed that Apple has not changed the design of the new device. It might have the same 7.9 inch display and TouchID authentication like the current iPad mini 4. However, the photo also indicates a redesigned antenna on the top, like on the current 9.7-inch iPad. It is also possible that iPad mini 5 might ship with a lower cost display, which would not be laminated, just like the 9.7-inch iPad.

As for the interior of the device, Ming-Chi Kuo reported that a processor upgrade is expected for iPad mini 5., like the A10 fusion chip. The current iPad mini 4 uses an Apple A8 processor, therefore, a faster processor will improve performance. Furthermore, the new device might have Apple Pencil support and Smart keyboard connectivity, as per a tweet by Steve Troughton-Smith. However, the same tweet suggests that Apple would ship the updated iPad without TouchID and FaceID, which seems highly unlikely.
It's hard to glean much information about J210/J211, and J217/J218, the upcoming iPad models. It seems like both iPad sizes support a Smart Keyboard and Pencil, but it's possible that neither include Touch ID (nor Face ID). Hard to imagine Apple shipping sans TouchID unless for $

The most interesting news regarding iPad mini 5 is its price. Almost all reports claim that it would be a ‘cheaper’ or ‘low cost’ device. Not quoting an actual price at the moment, Bloomberg reported that the new iPad mini 5 will cost less than the current iPad mini 4, which retails for $399.
Considering the reports that Apple has registered iPad mini 5 and a new 10-inch iPad with the Euroasian database and developer Steven Troughton-Smith found code references for the new iPad variants in iOS 12.2 beta, it can be expected that iPad mini 5 might be released soon, most likely during Apple’s March event. It is also expected that Apple will announce its new video streaming service and news subscription service during this event.
